This study attempted to analyze trends in item distribution in the Geometry domain of the Mathematics section of the College Scholastic Ability Test (CSAT) from 1994 to 2025 by content and behavioral domains. To this end, we reviewed the scope of the Geometry domain in successive National Curricula and changes in the CSAT Mathematics test formats, and then established an analytical framework composed of content domains and behavioral domains to analyze all items.
The results showed that, within the content domains, shifts corresponding to test‐format revisions and curriculum changes were observed; within the behavioral domains, the proportion of items assessing intra‐mathematical problem‐solving skills increased, whereas the proportions of items assessing computational skills and deductive‐reasoning skills decreased.
In conclusion, evaluation of the Geometry domain in the CSAT Mathematics section has evolved—alongside a narrowing of tested content—to emphasize intra‐mathematical problem‐solving skills over simple calculation or formal proof. Although this study is limited by potential subjectivity in the researcher’s judgments, its systematic elucidation of long‐term item trends provides foundational data for future improvements in curriculum and assessment.
