소설은 인간을 진실하고 개연성 있게 다루는 문학의 한 갈래로, 학습자는 작품을 통해 시간과 공간이 인간에게 어떠한 영향을 끼치는지 파악하면서 자신이 처한 시간과 공간에 대해서 새롭게 인식, 재정립하면서 성장하게 된다. 이러한 성장의 양상을 잘 다룬 소설의 한 갈래가 바로 ‘자전적 성장소설’이다. 본고는 이에 주목해 박완서의 대표적인 자전적 성장소설을 골라 그 속에 나타난 인물의 윤리적 성장 양상을 탐색한 다음, 작품의 윤리적 수용 교육 내용을 마련하는 것을 목적으로 삼았다.
앞선 연구를 검토해 보았을 때, 박완서의 자전적 성장소설 중 한두 작품을 선택해 윤리적 수용 가치를 파악하는 연구는 많지만 그것을 수용자의 측면에서 어떻게 활성화시킬 수 있는지 촉발 ․ 매개 기제를 탐색하는 연구는 많이 부족하고, 소설의 내적 기제인 시간과 공간이 어떻게 수용자의 윤리적 사유를 촉발하는지에 대한 연구까지는 못 나간 한계가 있다. 이 글에서는 앞선 연구를 바탕으로 박완서의 자전적 성장소설 속 인물의 윤리적 성장 양상을 자기와 타자로 나누고 시간과 공간을 고려하여 작품의 윤리적 수용 교육 내용을 마련해 보았다.
먼저 박완서의 자전적 성장소설의 교육적 가치가 자기 이해와 타자 이해의 선순환이 이루어짐을 여러 철학자의 이론을 통해 파악해 보았다. 이를 바탕으로 그 성장 변인을 인물 관계와 성장의 특성, 환경적 관여 요소인 시간과 공간으로 살펴보았다. 인물 관계 중 교화자는 근대적 문명에 대한 허위의식에 사로잡힌 모습을 보여주면서 자아에게 근대적 문명을 비판하는 눈을 길러주고 전통적 가치인 효에 바탕을 두고 이러한 윤리의식을 자아가 갖도록 체벌을 가한다. 조력자는 전통적 가치인 윤리의식의 표본으로 자아의 윤리의식 형성에 많은 기여를 하고 풍부한 정서 발달을 하는 토대가 되어 준다. 또한 한국전쟁의 극한 상황 속에서도 자아에게 정신적 안식처의 기능을 수행하고 자아도 한국전쟁의 폭력성을 비판하면서 의지적인 삶을 살도록 조력한다.
이러한 인물의 성장이 박완서의 자전적 성장소설에서 어떤 양상을 보이는지 면밀히 살펴보면 전쟁 상황 속에서는 남성 위주의 이데올로기에 의해 여성은 철저히 타자화되고 가족의 상실을 체험하게 된다. 또한 근대화의 시대 상황 속에서는 물질을 신처럼 숭배하게 되고 그로 인해 인간관계 속에서 배반을 경험하게 되며 아버지의 존재 여부에 따라 다른 의지적 자아를 형성하게 된다. 또한 공간의 양상은 시골과 도시의 대립 구조로 나타난다. 자아는 시골에서 다양한 감각적 체험을 하고 할아버지와 어머니와 관계를 맺으며 주체적인 자아를 형성해 나간다. 그리고 어머니의 손에 이끌려 입성한 물질적 공간인 도시에서는 기존의 시골에서 형성된 윤리 의식의 자아가 분열됨을 느끼게 되고 그 욕망을 점차 부정해 나가면서 역시 윤리적이고 주체적인 자아를 회복하게 된다.
이러한 박완서의 자전적 소설은 최대한 자신의 삶을 정직하게 쓰려 노력하여 구차하고 지리한 개인사의 단순 나열에 그치지 않아 시대적인 가치를 이룬 것이다. 이를 박완서는 소설화하면서 시대와 공간의 역학적 관계를 치열하게 고민하고 인물의 윤리적 성장을 다루었다. 이러한 소설을 교육하기 위한 모형을 제시하면 우선 학습자가 자전적 성장소설 속의 윤리적인 수용 가치를 인식하기 위해서 소설 속 자아를 시간과 공간의 역학적 구조 속에서 이해하고 나아가 자기를 둘러싼 타자를 역시 그 구조 속에서 인식해야 한다. 그리고 이를 내면화시키기 위해 교사는 시간과 공간에 대한 충분한 이론적 토대를 제시하여 박완서의 자전적 성장소설 속 시공간의 구도를 학습자가 파악하도록 해야 한다. 그리고 이를 발전시켜 학습자 스스로 어떠한 시공간의 구도에 놓여 있으며 그 속에서 타자 간에 어떠한 상관관계를 맺으며 자신의 윤리성을 형성하는지를 성찰하도록 교사는 이끌어야 한다. 이러한 내용을 구체적인 학습활동으로 제시하였다.
이 연구에서 도달한 교육적 모형화의 결론은 다음과 같다. 먼저 박완서의 자전적 성장소설에서 자기, 타자가 시간과 공간의 토대 위에서 어떤 상관관계를 맺으며 인물의 윤리적 성장을 이루는지 양상을 정리하고 뜻매김하여 자전적 성장소설교육에서 활용할 수 있는 방안을 모색해 보았다. 그리고 이를 위해서는 시간과 공간에 대한 충분한 사전 교육이 필요함을 밝혔다. 또한 박완서의 자전적 성장소설을 예로 들어 시간과 공간의 영향 아래에서 자기, 타자를 어떻게 이해하는지 살펴보았고, 교육 현장에서 구체적으로 적용할 수 있는 읽기 모형과 학습활동을 구안하였다. 다음으로 박완서의 자전적 성장소설의 윤리성을 학습자의 수준과 학교 현장의 상황을 고려하여 교육적으로 재개념화하여 구체적인 윤리성 교육을 설계하였다.
이 연구에서 제안한 시공간 속 자기, 타자의 상관관계에서 형성된 윤리적 수용 가치를 읽는 활동을 교육 현장에서 원활하게 하려면 시간, 공간의 개념이나 이론을 적절하게 교수학적으로 변환하고 학생들의 수준에 맞는 학습 용어로 다듬어야 한다. 앞으로 자전적 성장소설의 윤리적 수용 가치 연구가 더 활발히 이루어지기를 기대한다.

The novel is a branch of literature that deals with human beings in truth and probability, and the learner grows up by redefining and re-establishing his time and space while figuring out how time and space affect humans. One part of the novel that deals with this aspect of growth is the bildungroman. The Dong-A Ilbo took note of Park Wan-seo's bildungroman, aimed at exploring the ethical growth patterns of the figure in it, and preparing the content of the ethical acceptance education of the work.
When reviewing the previous study, there are many studies that select one or two of Park's bildungroman to grasp the value of ethical acceptance in terms of receptors, but trigger how they can be activated in terms of receptors. There are a lot of research to explore the medium, and there are limitations that have not gone so far as to study how time and space, the novel's inner mechanism, trigger ethical reasons for receptors. Based on the previous research, the article divided the ethical growth patterns of Park Wan-seo's bildungroman into self and type, and prepared the ethical acceptance education for his work in consideration of time and space.
First, the theory of philosophers revealed that the educational value of Park Wan-seo's bildungroman is a virtuous cycle of self-knowledge and typing. Based on this, we looked at the growth variables in terms of time and space, which are the characteristics of relationships, growth, and environmental involvement factors. In the character relationship, the cultivator shows his obsession with the false sense of modern civilization and physically punishes himself to have this sense of ethics based on the traditional values of filial piety. The facilitator is a sample of traditional values, ethics, which contribute a lot to the formation of self-ethics and is the foundation for a rich emotional development. It also helps the self to function as a spiritual haven and to live a willful life while criticizing the violence of the Korean War, even in the extreme circumstances of the Korean War.
A closer look at how such a character's growth shows in Park Wan-seo's bildungroman, and in the war situation, women are thoroughly typed by male-dominated ideology and experience the loss of family members. In addition, in modern times, matter is worshipped like a god, thereby experiencing treachery in human relationships and forming other willful egos depending on the existence of the father. Also, the aspect of space is represented by the confrontation between the countryside and the city. The self has various sensory experiences in the countryside and has relationships with the grandfather and mother, forming a self-centered self. And in a city that is a material space that has been brought into the hands of its mother, the self of ethical consciousness that is formed in the countryside feels divided and gradually negates its desire, thus restoring its ethical and self-reliance self.
Park Wan-seo's bildungroman has achieved not only the simple list of poor and intelligent personal history by trying to write his life honestly as much as possible, but also an epochal value. Park Wan-seo wrote this novel, thinking hard about the mechanical relationship between the times and the space and dealing with the ethical growth of figures. Presenting a model for educating such a novel requires learners to first understand the self in the novel in the mechanics of time and space, and then recognize the type of person that surrounds them, in order to recognize the ethical acceptance value of bildungroman. And to internalize this, the teacher should present a sufficient theoretical basis for time and space so that the learner can grasp the structure of time and time in Park Wan-seo's bildungroman. And by developing it, the teacher must lead the learner to reflect on what space-time structure lies on his own, what correlation he has between typing and shaping his own ethics. These are presented as specific learning activities.
The significance of this study is as follows. First, in Park Wan-suh’s bildungroman, we explored ways to organize the aspects of how he and the batter correlate on the basis of time and space and achieve ethical growth of the characters so that they can be used in the education of bildungroman. It also revealed that this requires sufficient pre-training about time and space. In addition, Park Wan-seo's bildungroman was taken as an example to examine how he understood self and typing under the influence of time and space, and designed reading models and learning activities specifically applicable to the educational field. Next, the ethics of Park Wan-seo’s bildungroman were redesigned educationally in consideration of the level of learners and the situation at the school site to design specific ethics education.
In order to facilitate the activities proposed in this study to read the ethical acceptance values formed in the time and space relationship, the concepts or theories of time and space should be properly converted and refined into learning terms appropriate to the level of students. We hope that further research on the ethical acceptance value of bildungroman will be carried out.
