    현대사회에서 가족의 중요성은 아무리 강조해도 지나침이 없을 정도로 우리의 삶에 중요하게 자리잡고 있다. 그 중요성을 인식하는 만큼 문제성도 다양하며 심각하게 나타나고 있다. 이것은 성도들에게서도 마찬가지이다. 그렇기 때문에 목회현장에서 성도들을 상담해야 하는 목회자로서 복잡하고 다변화 하고 있는 가족의 문제들을 어떻게 해결할 것인가? 하는 것은 무거운 과제가 아닐 수 없다.
    이러한 가족의 중요성을 피력하면서, 1장에서는 연구배경과 목적 그리고 연구방법과 범위와 용어정의에 대해서 살펴보았다. 그리고 2장에서는 가족상담적 배경을 성경에 기초하여 성경 속에서 보여지는 결혼과 가족갈등 그리고 이혼에 관한 문제들을 성경인물을 중심으로 정리해 보았다. 그러면서 성경인물들의 가족상황과 가족상담의 치료적 기법을 적용해 봄으로써 가족상담의 필요성에 대한 근거를 성경에서 찾아보았다.
    3장에서는 본 논문의 중심 주제인 가족상담에 대한 목회자들의 인식을 조사하여 분석해 보았다. 가족상담에 대한 전반적인 목회자들의 인식과 전문성에 과한 분석, 그리고 목회현장에서의 가족상담에 대한 자원등에 관하여 분석해 보았다. 또 주요교단별 신학대학원의 상담 및 가족상담에 관한 교과과정도 분석해 봄으로써 신학대학원별로 상담 및 가족상담의 교육의 활성화 및 전문성등을 검토해 보았으며, 신학대학원별 교과과정에 따라 가족상담에 대한 목회자들의 인식이 어떻게 다른지에 대해서 살펴보면서 다시한번 신학대학원에서의 상담및 가족상담의 교과과정의 확대필요성을 다루었다. 아울러 목회현장에서 필요한 가족상담의 치료적 기법을 소개하였다. 그리고 4장에서는 본 논문의 결론을 요약하면서 나름대로의 제언을 하였다.

    As the importance of family is being emphasized in current society, pastors and ministers were surveyed on their perception on the need of family counseling. One hundred pastors and ministers were surveyed and the study delved into their in depth understanding of family counseling.
    Survey questions were divided into three sections. The first questions were regarding the pastors and ministers general perception on family counseling. The second questions were based on their specific understanding on the importance of family counseling, and finally the third questions investigated the tools or methods in family counseling during actual situations. Through careful research, it can be understood that most of the pastors and ministers have an understanding of the importance and necessity of family counseling, yet still lack professional family counseling. This is especially true due to the fact that each divinity school has its own curriculum and the understanding of family counseling varies from school to school that the pastors and ministers have attended. In other words, pastors with exposure to family counseling education during their time in seminary have shown a more positive perception on family counseling than others that have not.
    Based on this research, this study presents the following observations. First, as pastors and ministers assume the role of a counselor to many, they should be obligated to possess professional knowledge and understanding about counseling. Second, as all those who have taken the survey have acknowledged the importance of family counseling, more emphasis and activity must be put on the relevant subject. Third, there must be more opportunities to learn more about family counseling, especially in the divinity school and there is a pressing need to extend relevant counseling subjects. Lastly, if churches have professional counselors other than the pastors and ministers, full cooperation is essential from both parties.
