국문 초록 (Abstract)

『나목』은 박완서의 장편소설로 그녀의 등단작이기도 하다. 작가의 자전적 체험으로 이루어진 『나목』은 20세의 여주인공이 6.25전쟁이라는 암울한 현실 속에서 시련을 딛고 성장해 나가는 이야기를 다룬 소설이다. 이 작품은 이후 전쟁을 소재로 하거나 작가의 자전적 이야기를 다룬 박완서의 여러 작품의 초석으로 작용하기 때문에, 박완서의 작품 세계를 이해하는 실마리가 된다. 『나목』은 접근하는 관점에 따라 여러 가지로 해석이 가능하다. 『나목』에서 작품의 배경을 중심으로 하여 연구한다면 전쟁소설, 서술의 입장에서 본다면 작가체험소설, 주인공의 성적 정체성의 확립 측면에서 본다면 페미니즘 소설, 그리고 인물의 성장기로 파악한다면 성장소설의 측면에서 연구가 가능하다. 본고는 이 가운데에서 미성숙한 주인공이 여러 장애를 경험하며 자아를 성립하고 성장하게 된다는 사실에 초점을 맞추어 성장소설로서 작품을 연구해 보고자 한다.
『나목』을 성장소설로 파악하였으므로, 작품의 해석에 들어가기 앞서, 성장소설의 이해에 대한 연구가 선행되어야 할 필요성이 있다. 성장소설은 주인공이 분리(separation), 전이(translation), 결합(incorporation)의 단계를 거치는 것이 일반적으로, 이는 일종의 통과의례 구조라고 볼 수 있다. 이러한 과정을 통하여 주인공은 미성숙에서 성숙으로의 변화를 꾀하게 되고, 사회와 온전히 소통하게 된다. 성장소설의 주인공은 대개 사춘기 이전의 어린 나이로, 미성숙, 불안, 불만, 결핍 등의 요소를 가진 인물로 설정된다. 이들은 자신이 처한 환경에서 분리된 채 새로운 세계와 소통을 하게 되는데, 이 과정에서 주인공은 여러 장애 요소와 부딪히게 된다. 주인공이 맞닥뜨린 장애 요소는 사실 주인공의 성장을 가능케 하는 원동력으로서, 장애를 극복해 나가는 과정을 통하여 주인공은 성장하고 세계와 소통하게 된다. 이러한 성장소설 중에서도 여성을 주인공으로 하는 여성 성장소설의 경우, 남성을 주인공으로 하는 성장소설과는 다른 특징이 있다. 보통의 성장소설에서 최종적으로 이끌어내고자 하는 결론이 주인공의 자아정체성 형성인데 비하여, 여성 성장소설의 경우는 자아정체성을 형성하는 목표 이외에도 여성으로서 겪게 되는 여러 장애를 극복하고 성적 자각을 통해 여성정체성을 확립하는 것까지를 목표로 한다.
『나목』또한 이러한 성장소설의 특성을 내포하고 있는데, 성장소설에서 대표적인 통과의례적 구성에 따라 분리 단계, 전이 단계, 결합 단계의 성격에 맞게 작품의 내용을 대입시킬 수 있다. 작품 속에서 주인공이 세계에서 분리하게 된 원인은 아버지의 부재와 어머니와의 소통 단절에서 온다. 육친의 죽음을 경험했다는 점과 어머니로부터 자신이 존재를 부정당했다는 점은 주인공 이경에게 씻을 수 없는 큰 상처를 남긴다. 이러한 상처로 인하여 주인공은 자신의 정체성에 위기를 느끼게 되고, 방황과 시련을 경험한다. 이 과정에서 이경은 옥희도에게서 이상화 된 자신의 아버지를 떠올린다. 옥희도 또한 이경에게서 자극을 받아 다시 예술가로서 창작활동을 하게 된다. 그러나 이경과 옥희도의 관계에서 옥희도는 이경의 환상 속에서 이상화된 아버지로 기능하는 가상적 존재이기 때문에, 한계에 부딪힐 수밖에 없게 된다. 즉, 이러한 이경의 태도는 현실을 부정하고 회피한 채 과거로의 퇴행하고자 한 것이다. 이경에게 옥희도가 가상의 아버지로서 지속적으로 영향을 끼쳤다면, 미군인 조는 짧지만 강렬하게 영향을 끼쳐 이경이 자신의 외상을 지각할 수 있도록 하는 존재이다. 이경은 자기 파괴의 욕구와 환경에 대한 불만으로 조와의 정사를 시도한다. 이러한 정사의 체험은 이경의 내면에 봉인되었던 과거의 상처를 일깨우게 된다. 끔찍한 오빠들의 죽음과 그로 인한 죄책감은 이경의 내면에서 그녀를 옭매이는 족쇄로 작용하여 왔다. 그런데 그 상처를 직시하고 수용하게 됨으로써 이경은 자신의 상처를 치유하게 되고, 세계와의 화해를 시도하게 된다. 어머니의 죽음과 옥희도와의 결별 조와의 정사 등의 사건을 통해 현실의 감각을 회복한 이경은 황태수와 결혼하여 현실적 세계에 정착을 하게 되는데 이러한 과정을 거침으로써 그녀는 자아를 확립하게 되고, 성장하게 되어 안정적인 삶을 살게 된다. 이후 옥희도의 ‘나목’을 보게 된 그녀는 그림 속에서 사춘기 시절 보았던 황량했던 ‘고목’이 아닌, 미래에 대한 희망을 간직한 ‘나목’을 발견한다. 이러한 시선의 변화는 곧 그녀가 세상을 긍정적으로 인식하게 되었음을 의미하는 것으로 성장소설의 목적에 부합하는 것이라고 할 수 있다.

This research the fact that it analyzes Park wan seo's 『Namok』 who made a debut in 1970 Korean literary world today from viewpoint of growth novel in objective. Park wan seo until since then now which makes a debut with 1970 『Namok』 which stands fourteen long novels and about twenty middle volume novels and short stories, essays, nursery stories announces the assimilation back and it comes and it is active and is being active an author who it is.
The novel quality of the present growth novel where has become the viewpoint of discussiion from the research which it sees with afterwords is same. First, growth novel of most 'am I who' as the search the true identity characteristic of the self which it does. Second, destruction of the family community which is caused by with 6.25 warfares and it is caused by in paternal right absence and it will not be able to search the object of identification the place it is difficult it is a growth disorder novel which it undergoes. Specially the case father of woman growth novel the absence treats the problems against the social self estabilishment of the heroins. Third, from growth process it is caused by with negation environment and it dies and with to discover an evil it becomes and it is experienced a discord with shock experince.
The heroine Lee Kyeong with afterwords undergoes the growth process as the woman together from Park's 『Namok』. First, the growth disorder which the head of a family by in absence, Lee the father can be caused by in absence and it cannot be protected it experiences from the fence of the family and a sprit panic. Second, it is caused by with the patriarch ideology mother and Lee is undergone and the spirit wound namely, it experiences the characteristic true identity sincerity damage of oneself who is a woman. It hides on back of patriarchism and it is recognized and the limit of the position woman and becomes the opportunity which confirms the true identity characteristics of oneself. Third, the chimpanzee doll which is a vehicle to distinguish the first phase of growth well childhood is comfortable from anger width shows the features of Ok Hee Do where the existence feeling is damaged in the same time when it is a vehicle which distinguishes the mind of Lee which wants staying. Fourth, sexual identity is an essentila element of growth to woman growth novel. Lee and GI it meets to be a resistance with the Confucianism convention and a taboo of the mother, Lee with the confirmation regarding the existence of oneself is used the fool with mediation of desire escape. It overcomes like this sexual deviation and Lee feels the will of strong life and in marriage with Hwang Tae Soo it enters in the common sense world.
Result 『Namok』is talk of the people who undergo a panic spirit with 6.25 warfares. To this work spirit occurs from the extreme situation where the heroine of adolescence is warfare becomes impoverished and to overcome it is undergone from the process which grows the phases of the growth are becoming known well. This research expanded from research of existing which it limits in 6.25 experience novels the grow qualities from woman growth novel, it confirmed it was a work where 『Namok』 is suitable in Korean growth novel quality to sleep to confirm and it did
