국문 초록 (Abstract)

이 논문에서는 다면적 특징을 가지고 있는 심리학이 인간에 대한 종합적 이해로서의 학문이 되기 위해서 연구자가 검토해야 할 필수 조건들에 대해서 살펴보고자 하였다. 여기서 말하고 있는 인간에 대한 종합적 이해라는 의미는 인간에 대한 과학적 이해와 철학적 이해의 통합으로서, 또는 과학적 이해와 과학외적 이해의 통합으로서 인간을 이해하게 됨을 의미한다. 여기서 언급하고 있는 인간에 대한 과학外적 이해는 인간에 대한 철학적, 문화적, 예술적, 신화적 이해를 포함하는 용어를 의미한다. 한편 인간에 대한 과학적 이해는 가설설정, 경험적 관찰, 가설검증을 통한 일련의 과정을 거쳐 이루어진 인간에 대한 이해를 의미한다.
본문의 내용은 다음과 같다.
ⅰ) 심리학의 연구대상에 대한 이해의 폭을 넓히기 위해서, 일반적인 인간 파악의 여러 관점들을 제시하였다. 인간에 관한 연구를 할 때, 사람들은 이미 인간에 관해서 어떤 생각을 가지고 출발한다. 이러한 것을 인간에 대한 "전이해"라고 한다. 심리학은 심리학의 연구 대상을 어떻게 이해하고 있느냐 즉 연구자들이 갖고 있는 인간에 대한 전이해에 따라서 다양한 분야로 발전하여 왔기 때문에 심리학의 연구자들이 갖고 있는 인간에 대한 전이해의 파악은 심리학을 연구하는데 있어서 기본적인 출발점이자 매우 중요한 가치를 지니고 있다고 볼 수 있다. 이 부분에서는 연구 대상에 대한 전이해의 중요성을 연구자에게 인식하는 데에 그 목적이 있다.
ⅱ) 심리학의 연구영역에 대한 이해의 폭을 넓히기 위해서, 전체 학문의 분류 속에서의 심리학의 위치를 확인하고, 다양한 심리학의 연구영역을 살펴보았다. 또한 심리학 발전에 기반이 되는 심리학 인접 학문들을 제시하였는데 여기에서는 심리학의 본질인 다면적인 특성을 종합적으로 이해하기 위해서 인접학문들에 대한 기본적 연구가 이루어져야함을 강조하였다.
ⅲ) 심리학의 연구관점에 대한 이해의 폭을 넓히기 위해서, 학문 연구에 필요한 세 가지 관점을 제시하였다. 첫째로 심리학의 연구 대상이나 연구 목적에 대한 주관적(철학적) 인식을 제공해주는 형이상학적 관점을 제시하였다. 둘째로 심리학의 연구 방법에 대한 객관적 인식을 제공하는 과학적 관점을 제시하였다. 셋째로 심리학의 연구 결과를 응용하는 데에 관한 기술학적 관점을 제시하였다. 여기에서 세 가지 관점을 제시한 이유는, 다면적 특징을 갖고 있는 심리학이 학문 자체의 정의나 의의 또는 한계와 같은 것을 규정하는데 있어 이들 세 가지 관점으로 그 학문 자체를 조명할 필요가 있음을 강조하기 위함이다.
ⅳ) 인간에 대한 종합적 이해로서의 심리학을 위해 앞서 제시한 인간 파악의 관점이나 인접학문들의 연구나 세가지 연구관점이 필요하다는 점을 강조하고 확인하기 위해서, 현재 심리학의 정의가 이루어지기까지의 과정과 심리학 연구에 대한 과학적 견해와 과학外적 견해의 차이를 살펴보았다. 이 부분에서는 심리학에 대한 여러 견해의 차이들이 서로 상반되는 관계가 아니라 서로 보완해 주는 관계라는 사실을 강조하며, 나아가 종합적인 이해로서의 심리학을 위해 어느 한 쪽도 간과할 수 없음을 강조한다.
결론에서는 본론에서 제시한 내용의 요약 이외에도 미래의 심리학 연구를 위해 연구자들이 가져야할 윤리적 책임감의 필요성과 그것(연구자들이 갖는 윤리적 책임감)이 인간 사회의 발전에 미치는 영향을 중요성을 간략하게 언급하였다.
심리학 연구자들이 위에서 제시된 문제들에 대해 심사숙고하고 이를 기반으로 인간에 대한 종합적 이해를 위해 노력한다면, 심리학은 인간의 미래를 위해 올바른 지침이 되어 줄 수 있다는 것을 이 논문에서는 주장하고 있다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

The purpose of this study was to examine the necessary conditions which would make psychology a dscipline of the synthetic understanding of human beings. The meaning of the synthetic understanding of human 'beings was the integration of the scientific understanding of human beings and the extrascientific understanding of human beings. The extrascientific understanding of human beings included the philosophical, cultural, artistic and mythological understanding of human beings. And the scientific understanding of human beings was the understanding of human beings which was established through making hypotheses, observing empirically and testing hypotheses.
The subject of this study is following.
1. In order to extend the understanding of objects of psychological studies, various viewpoints of human understanding were presented. Researcher started with a concept of human beings when they studied. This concept was the "pre-understanding" of human beings. Since psychology has been developed into many fields according to researchers' pre-understanding, it is very fundamental and very valuable to know the pre-understanding of researchers in psychology. The intention of this part was let researchers realize the important role which their pre-understanding plays in their studies.
2. In order to extend the understanding of fields of psychological studies, the positions of psychology among disciplines and various fields in psychological studies were examined. Many other disciplines adajacent to psychology were also presented because they were the basis of the development of psychology. In this part, the point that the adajacent disciplines should be studied to understand synthetically the multilateral characteristics of psychology which was the essence of psychology was emphasized.
3. In order to extend the understanding of viewpoints of psychological studies, three viewpoints necessary for studying disciplines were suggested. The first viewpoint was the metaphysical one which provided subjective (philosophical) knowledge for objects or goals of psychological studies. The second viewpoint was the scientific one which provided objective knowledge for methods of psychological studies. The third viewpoint was the technological one which was related to the application of results of psychological studies. By presented those three viewpoints, it is emphasized that psychology itself as a discipline should be searched in the light of them in order to examine its definition, its meaning or its limit.
4. In order to show why various viewpoints of human understanding, the study of many adajacent disciplines to psychology and three viewpoints of disciplines were needed for psychology as the synthetic understanding of human beings, the process of establishing the definition of psychology and the difference between the scientific view and the extrascientific view of psychology was presented. In this part, it is emphasized that various views of psychology were not contradictory and they are rather complimentary. It is also emphasized that any of them should not be ignored for psycholofy as the synthetic understanding of human beings.
In conclusion, the ethical was added besides the main subject. The issue included the ethical responsibility which researchers must have for future psychological studies and the influences which the responsibility has for the development of human society.
This study insisted that psychology could be a right guiding principle for human future if the researchers of psychology contemplate the issues raised above and try to attain the synthetic understanding of human beings on the basis of contemplation.
