The purpose of the study was investigate the effect of self-portrait though a media of drawing on the art self-expression ability of children with autistic disorder.
The subjects were 4 children with autistic disorder who were selected based on results of the Autism Behavior Checklist and DSM-Ⅳ.
The self-portrait drawing used in this study contains 11 medias which were considered as effective in the development of art self-expression ability, decided based on preceding studies, and the children were provided with it for a period of 40 minutes 5 times a week, a total of 38 sessions. The art self-expression ability was, based on the children's draw observed, provided with points and presented in tables and graphics. The art self-expression ability was provided with the results of pre, post, and maintenance tests using art self-expression ability assessment and also presented in tables and graphics.
The finding could be summarized as follows; the self-portrait drawing had effect on the improvement of the children's art self-expression ability. When the program completed, all the children showed improvement in the art self-expression ability.
