영문초록:This study was carried out to investigate antimicrobial and antitumor activities of solvent extracts of seed and skin of Camellia sinensis L. Antimicrobial and antitumor activities were examined against 17 microorganisms and 6 human tumor cell lines, respectively.The results obtained were summarized as follows ;1. Extraction yields of seed and skin by 70% ethanol were 15.9 and 12.3%, respectively. Also extraction yields of seed and skin by water were 30.6 and 21.8%, respectively.2. Seed extract showed antifungal activities against Candida albicans IFO 1594 and Cryptococcus neoformans among tested yeast. 70% Ethanol extract of seed showed inhibition zone 20 mm against Candida albicans IFO 1594 at the concentration of 100 mg/mL.3. Antifungal activity of seed extract was not decreased by heating at 80 and 100℃ for 30 min and at 121℃ for 15 min, suggesting that the component in seeds was heat-stable. 4. Skin extract did not show anititumor activity, but seed extract showed growth inhibition effect on tumor cell lines. Water extract of seed were better on antitumor activity than 70% ethanol extract. 5. Antitumor activity of seed extract by water showed 98.6% in Farrow 98.4% in HEP-2, 98.3% in SK-OV-3, 98.2% in SW-156 and 98.0% in SK-MES-1 at the concentration of 500 μg/mL.6. From the result of growth inhibition effect of seed extract by water to tumor cell line SK-OV-3 and normal cell line NIH/3T3, tumor cells showed growth inhibition effect in over 70% and normal cells showed the growth inhibition effect in below 10% at 50 μg/mL. So seed extract by water showed selective toxicity to tumor cell line than normal cell line using MTT assay
