Nowadays, the types and complexity of avionics equipment mounted on aircraft are increasing, and existing analog-based devices are becoming digitized and multifunctional with the improvement of aircraft performance and the development of avionics systems.
Accordingly, research and application of the interface between the pilot and the aircraft is emerging as an important design consideration in order to enable the pilot to properly control the increasingly complex aircraft systems and cockpit. In particular, it is necessary to design an optimized screen centered on the pilot considering the ergonomic point of view in order to display various information of the aircraft on the MFD(Multi Function Display).
This paper presents the process of designing an optimized integrated digital engine indication through ergonomic review of the basic requirements for engine indication design in the MFD of the KUH-1E(Korean Utility Helicopter, expert version), the KUH-1 Surion-derived model.
For the finally designed integrated digital engine indication, pilot field of view analysis was performed using the CATIA tool, and PVI(Pilot Vehicle Interface) test was performed on the aircraft.
As a result of comparative analysis with the existing design, it was found that whether the main engine information was provided on the PFD(Primary Flight Display) screen, the consistency of the display method, and the arrangement interacted with the pilots preference.
