A Case Study of Online Writing Class about Life Culture for Female Immigrants through Marriage

This study investigated real-time online writing class for female immigrants through marriage to examine the online class from the viewpoint of the learner group, the effect of real-time online culture writing class, and their understanding of culture demonstrated through the class to verify the effectiveness of real-time online writing courses for female immigrants through marriage.
To this end, 11 female immigrants through marriage who were taking a Korean course for beginners at ** Multicultural Family Support Center located in Gyeonggi-do were selected as research participants. After 14 sessions of the course, an in-depth interview was conducted with the participants using semi-structured questionnaires. The results of the study were analyzed by dividing "the characteristics of real-time online courses for female immigrants through marriage," "the characteristics of female immigrants through marriage demonstrated from real-time online writing courses," and "the understanding of culture through real-time online writing courses using culture" into sub-categories.
After examining "the patterns of the female immigrants through marriage demonstrated from the real-time online class" the following results were obtained: first, the study participants were able to attend the courses consistently due to the autonomy of the space and the free time. Second, the female immigrants through marriage showed high interest in the online class as they were able to learn Korean while taking care of their children. Third, due to COVID-19, those with unvaccinated children or who were in the postpartum period after having a baby found the online course safer. However, the research subjects had difficulties answering questions in Korean during the class. The beginners felt pressure for answering questions. Lastly, the comfort of staying at home rather made it difficult for them to concentrate and participate in the class.
After examining "the differences between the characteristics of real-time online culture writing courses for female immigrants through marriage and offline writing courses" the following results were obtained: first, offline courses were more efficient and better participated as the students were able to respond quickly and exchange feedback in a flexible way. Second, the students were able to better concentrate while writing within a limited time in the real-time online class compared to offline courses. Third, the students were given similar levels of help in selecting vocabulary suitable for the context and correcting grammatical errors in both offline and real-time online classes. In addition, culture writing courses were well received by the students in terms of learning and cultural understanding aspects. Fourth, it was found that the real-time online writing class was optimal for independent learners when it comes to their relationships with friends and writing courses.
As for "the understanding of culture through real-time online culture writing courses in the female immigrants through marriage, the following results were obtained: first, real-time online courses attracted more interest and response for allowing students to expand various knowledge backgrounds in class. Second, no clear difference was found in the attitudes and understanding of Korean life through culture in both offline and online classes. Cultural understanding through writing on various cultural characteristics received a positive response. Third, the offline class was more effective in giving a more realistic feeling as students can experience culture in person.
This study has significance in providing reference data for writing class that help understand Korean culture by revealing that real-time online culture writing class for beginner-level female immigrants through marriage can achieve both academic effect and cultural understanding. Follow-up research is expected to conduct a case study on writing courses for broader learning levels where various tools are used and the advantages of real-time online courses are integrated.

결혼이주여성의 온라인 생활문화
쓰기 수업 사례 연구

본 연구는 결혼이주여성을 대상으로 진행한 실시간 온라인 쓰기 수업 사례 연구를 통해 결혼이주여성의 관점에서 실시간 온라인 수업은 어떠한지 살펴보고, 이중 실시간 온라인 수업에서 진행된 문화 글쓰기 수업을 통한 효과는 무엇이며, 문화를 활용한 쓰기 수업을 통해 결혼이주여성에게 나타나는 문화 이해 반응이 어떠한지 살펴봄으로써 결혼이주여성을 대상으로 한 실시간 온라인 쓰기 수업의 활용성을 제공하고자 한다.
본 연구는 경기도 ** 다문화가족지원센터에서 한국어 수업을 받는 초급반 결혼이주여성 11명을 연구참여자로 선정하였다. 연구참여자들은 14차시 수업 종료 후 심층 면담 중 반구조화된 질문지로 면담을 진행하였다. 연구결과는 ‘결혼이주여성의 실시간 온라인 수업의 특성’, ‘결혼이주여성의 실시간 온라인 쓰기 수업을 통해 나타나는 특성’, ‘문화를 활용한 실시간 온라인 쓰기 수업을 통해 본 문화 이해’에 대해 각각의 하위 범주를 세분화하여 분석하였다.
‘결혼이주여성의 실시간 온라인 수업에서 나타나는 양상은 어떠한가’에 대해 살펴본 결과 첫째, 연구 참여자들은 공간의 자율성과 시간적 여유로 꾸준히 수업을 참여하며 학습할 수 있었다. 둘째, 결혼이주여성의 특성상 육아를 병행하며 수업을 참여할 수 있다는 점에 상당한 호응을 나타냈다. 셋째, COVID-19로부터 안전하며, 특히 예방접종을 하지 않은 영유아 자녀들 둔 결혼이주여성이나 출산 후 산후조리 중인 결혼이주여성은 코로나에 대한 불안감에서 안전하다는 생각을 더 많이 하였다. 다만 질문에 대한 한국어 소통 어려움이 있었다. 연구 참여자들이 초급반이기 때문에 질문에 대한 부담감이 컸다. 그리고 집이라는 공간의 장점은 편안함과 동시에 집중력에 대한 한계로 수업을 참여하는 과정에서 어려움을 느꼈다.
‘결혼이주여성의 실시간 온라인 쓰기 수업에서 진행된 문화 글쓰기 수업의 특성은 오프라인 쓰기 수업과 어떠한 차이가 있는가’에 대해 살펴본 결과 쓰기 수업의 참여도와 효율적인 측면에서는 첫째, 오프라인 쓰기 수업이 빠른 대처와 유연한 피드백 가능해서 더 효율적이었다. 둘째, 제한된 시간 안에 쓰기 능력 수행 측면에서는 오프라인 수업보다 실시간 온라인 수업이 더 집중력 발휘가 높았다. 셋째, 맥락에 맞는 어휘 선택과 맞춤법 도움은 오프라인과 실시간 온라인 수업 모두 비슷하였다. 또한, 문화를 통해 쓰기 수업은 학습적인 측면과 다양한 문화 이해를 충족할 수 있는 부분에 좋은 호응을 나타냈다. 넷째, 친구 관계와 쓰기 수업 연관성 측면에서는 실시간 온라인 쓰기가 자립적 학습자에게 최적이었다.
‘문화를 활용한 실시간 온라인 쓰기 수업을 통해 결혼이주여성에게 나타나는 문화 이해 반응’에 대한 결과적 측면으로 첫째, 수업 내 다양한 지식 배경을 확장할 수 있는 도구 활용이 가능한 실시간 온라인 쓰기 수업이 더 많은 관심과 호응이 더 높았다. 둘째, 문화를 통한 한국 생활 태도와 이해는 오프라인 수업과 온라인 수업 모두 뚜렷한 차이점이 나타나지 않았다. 다양한 문화적 특성을 글쓰기를 통한 문화 이해는 긍정적 반응을 보였다. 셋째, 문화 수업에 대한 현장감은 오프라인 수업이 실시간 온라인 수업보다 직접적인 체험이 가능해, 현장감 측면에서는 더 효과적임을 알 수 있었다.
본 연구는 초급 수준의 결혼이주여성을 대상으로 진행한 실시간 온라인 문화 활용 글쓰기 수업은 학습적인 효과와 문화 이해를 동시에 충족해 줄 수 있어, 한국 문화 이해 쓰기 수업에 참고 자료로 활용하는데 연구 의의가 있다. 본 연구를 바탕으로 결혼이주여성의 수준별 대상의 폭을 넓히고, 다양한 실시간 온라인 수업에서 사용할 수 있는 다양한 도구사용과 실시간 온라인 수업이 가질 수 있는 장점이 반영된 쓰기 수업 사례 연구가 이루어져야 할 것이다.
