다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

It is regarded that since the modern time of China, Shanghai has taken a significant position in the Chinese urban growth. Especially since China started Reform and Open Policy, Shanghai emerged as one of the most attention-getting cities`s and there have been a great many of researches conducted on this city. However, the urban research on Shanghai is not accomplished in a short period of time. In fact, academic base have been accumulated during the process of this city being rapidly developed as a modern city, especially since between 1920s and 1930s. There are so many academic achievements made in this field, but the study on Shang Han Shi Tong Zhi Guan(上海市通志館) is quite remarkable. Accordingly, this thesis reviewed the academic achievements and activities of Shang Han Shi Tong Zhi Guan in full measure so that we might evaluate its outcomes in terms of history. As They are widely used as a documentary and literary groundwork even today, as well as the full-scale beginning of research on the history of Shanghai, China, this study has a large significance, in that it could examine the base of Chinese researchers` knowledge systems and intellectual capital.
