      탈경계 시대의 율곡학에 대한 인문학적 성찰 = Humanities Reflection on Yulgok Studies in the Era beyond Boundaries

      This article was designed from the research goal of attempting a humanities reflection on Yulgok Studies in the context of the demands of the times to go out of the boundaries in the present age, in which the boundaries between new conflicts and confrontations is being caused by Covid 19. The boundary used in this article does not refer to the level of experience in terms of aesthetics, but presupposes that it means that a specific event and problem are a limit that can be distinguished by a certain standard.
      This article examines the problem beyond boundaries found in Yulgok Studies from the following three aspects on the basis of such a problem consciousness. (1) After grasping the problem of human reason in the dual context of barbaric reason and sound reason, applying it to the position of Yulgok Studies, the problem of bordering caused by barbaric reason is reviewed reflectively. Furthermore, it examines the necessity of recovering a sound reason to overcome this. (2) The tragedy of intellectuals was a very big problem as a social and national problem of Yulgok's day, which was born of barbaric reason. This article reviews concrete discussions that suggested that Yulgok, recognizing this seriously, needs to move beyond the boundaries of confrontational factions into a world of grand integration. (3) It also discusses the necessity of interdisciplinary dialogue and communication across the boundaries of different ideologies in terms of academics. In this process, this article verifies the humanities significance of Yulgok's basic stance of studies and the interest and communication spirit of Confucianism, Buddhism, and Taoism.
      The problem of boundary building and trans-boundaries that appeared in Yulgok's era is still valid today. This is because the conflicts and confrontations between races and classes, as well as the boundaries between different politics, religions, and ideologies, and the topographical map of academic affiliation, are still not disappearing. As in the modern era, when the self-centered sense of values is re-established and the self-centered hierarchies rise again, and the new power of “border-building” is exercised, the humanities beyond the boundaries are demanded as the more desirable value. In this respect, the reflective criticism of the boundary-building in Yulgok Studies has a great suggestion in the modern era beyond boundaries.
