국문 초록 (Abstract)

21세기 한국 사회학의 올바른 자리매김은 ‘홀로서기’와 이를 바탕으로 한 세계 학계와의 ‘관계맺기’를 위한 방법과 논리를 개발하는 데 있다. 우리 현실을 바탕삼아 새로운 사회이론을 만들 수 있도록 한국 사회에 관한 문제틀, 메타이론, 방법론을 제시해야 한다.
첫째, 사회과학의 분야별 영역주의를 타파하여 우리 사회에 독특한 주제에 관한 융합과 통섭의 총합적 접근을 시도해야 한다. 이때 학제적 연구를 넘어 초제적 또는 탈제적 접근을 추구해야한다. 사회과학 내부에 인위적으로 구획된 장벽을 낮춤으로서 정치학, 경제학, 사회학 사이의 대화를 촉진하여 보다 열린 지식체계를 구축해야 할 것이다.
둘째, 사회학은 역사학과의 교류와 협력을 강화해야 한다. 한국 사회에 관한 부분사적ㆍ전체사적 연구를 적극적으로 활용하여 한국 사회에 대한 분석을 보다 심화할 수 있을 것이다. 지금까지 우리의 연구가 외래 이론에 의해 계도된 사실분석이었다면, 앞으로는 한국 현실에 대한 ‘짙은 묘사’를 바탕으로 ‘제한된 일반화’를 시도함으로써 우리 이론을 만들고 바로 세우는 작업을 추진할 수 있을 것이다.
셋째, 사회학은 다른 국가, 문화, 지역과의 비교연구를 강화해야 한다. 이를 위해서 국내 연구의 국제화와 지역연구의 국내화가 선행되어야 한다. 비교연구를 통해 한국 사회의 보편성과 특수성에 대한 이론적·경험적 지평에서의 논의도 평가할 수 있다.
우리의 문제를 우리의 시각에서 정립하고 또 해결책을 제시할 수 있을 때, 나아가 세계의 문제를 우리의 준거를 가지고 정의하거나 재해석 할수 있을 때, 한국학의 세계화가 가능하다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

The right positioning of 21st century Korean Sociology lies on the one hand in ‘standing alone’ of Korean sociology, and on the other hand in ‘reaching out’ to global sociology. In order to develop Korean sociological theory based on our own experiences, we should elaborate problematique, meta-theory and methodology for studying Korean society.
First, by dismantling disciplinary divisions, we should pursue comprehensive approaches in our unique research topics. Inter-disciplinary, trans-disciplinary, and post-disciplinary approaches are needed. We should promote dialogues among political science, economics and sociology within social science discipline thereby establishing more opened knowledge system.
Second, sociology should strengthen its ties with history department. By using particular and total knowledges accumulated in history, we can delve into Korean society more intensively. So far the study of Korean society is mainly guided by the imported foreign theories, we can try ‘limited generalization’ based on ‘thick description’ of Korean realities.
Third, we should lead comparative researches with other nation-states, cultures, and regions. In order to do that, globalizing national researches and nationalizing regional researches are preceded. Through comparative studies, the universal and particular characteristics of Korean societies can be evaluated on theoretical and empirical grounds.
We can globalize Korean studies only on these conditions: We could problematize our own problems upon our own perspectives and show solutions of our own making. Furthermore, we can define or interpret global problems from our own reference point.
