다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract) kakao i 다국어 번역

Words have often been considered as consisting of separate morphemes, and the morphemes are categorized into roots/stems and affixes, as well as bound forms and free forms. However, there are fuzzy cases, where non-morphemic elements are involved in word-formation, such as -aholic, -athon, -gate and -scape. These elements are called splinters, which are non-morphemic, recurring forms in blends. This paper examines the characteristics of such recurring splinters and considers their morphological status in relation to other morphological categories from bound roots and affixes to combining forms. I show that morphological categorization of recurring splinters should be accounted for as part of a continuum by considering such various aspects as being free or bound, abbreviated or complete, lexical or not, as well as of a foreign origin or native.
