The purpose of this study is to examine the scope of usage and the change in formation of Buncheong ware used in the National Rituals(gillye,吉禮) of the early Joseon Dynasty. First, it is necessary to pay attention to process of systematizing various systems related to ritual after allowing the use of ceramic instead of metal according to the old system. Through this, the appearance and spread of Buncheong ware ritual vessels can be understood in the policies promoted by the government. It is highly likely that the types of Buncheong ware used in the National Rituals were limited to some of the ritual vessels included in the Jegidoseol(Pictorial Illustrations and descriptions of Ritual Vessels, 祭器圖說). Buncheong ware ritual vessels tend to focus on vessels for serving food, alcohol, and water. Buncheong ware ritual vessels are basic vessels in all National Rites. In particular, the scope of its utilization can be estimated in that they matches the type of ritual vessels required for Jungsa (medium national rituals, 中祀) and Sosa(small national rituals, 小祀). The shape and decoration of buncheong ware ritual vessels can be confirmed the acceptance, application, and mixing of formative principles according to the decoration technique. And I thought these changes was also related to the maintenance and inspection of system for ritual vessels.
