An economical and reliable numerical method to solve the dynamic contact (impact) problems of an elastic body is presented. The true contact points are always detected at each time step by iteratively reducing the displacement error vector defined on the possible contact surface, and the velocity compatibility on the contact surface is also satisfied by iteratively reducing the velocity error vector defined on the contact surface.
By the numerical experiments, the accuracy and reliability of the present method are facorably compared with that of the other well-known method.
