    The Duksung Academy, which celebrates its 100th anniversary in 2020, has three anniversaries: May 17, April 19 and Oct. 10.
    First of all, May 17 is the day the university celebrated its opening day. Duksung Women's University's anniversary has been known as May 17, 1950. However, it is not true that Duksung Women’s University opened on May 17, 1950, as a two-year junior college. Second, April 19 is the day the Duksung Academy celebrates as its founding anniversary since 2004. Established on April 19, 1920 as the school's founding anniversary, it was the first time that women's night classes were started at the Joseon Women's Education Association's Women's Night School, founded by Cha Melissa, the founder of the Duksung Academy.
    Third, October 10 is the anniversary of the opening of Duksung Girls' Middle and High School. Duksung Girls’ High School celebrates this day as the day when Geunhwa Girls’ High School was accredited in 1921. The truth, however, is that the principal took over the school from the U.S. military authorities in 1945.
    Celebrated the 100th anniversary of the foundation of the Duksung Academy in 2020, the anniversary needs to be unified into one. To do so, we have to change the anniversary of the opening of Duksung Girls' High School, which has been wrongly honored so far. “The beginning of middle and high schools should be seen as April 19, 1920,” said Duksung Girls’ Middle School principal and president of the university’s general association. By honoring the founding anniversary of the school on April 19, 1920, all educational institutions under the Duksung Academy need to redefine the meaning of celebrating the centennial of the school.
