This paper examines the notion of the translating agent as presented in previous translation studies by categorizing it into three perspectives: ‘the translating agent as viewed through metaphors,’ ‘the translating agent as a textual phenomenon,’ and ‘the translating agent within a social net work.’ First, in the metaphorical view, the translating agent is portrayed as a subordinate entity, a figure symbolically associated with canniba lism, and as a force that provokes invasion and destruction. Second, as a textual phenomenon, the translating agent is analyzed as an invisible entity, one primarily defined by its roles and functions, and as one that adheres to established norms. Third, the paper explores the role of the translating agent within broader social networks. In the context of the AI era, this study categorizes emerging translating agents into ‘technology-centric’ ‘convergent’ and ‘problem-solving’ agents. Special attention is given to the ‘problem-solving translating agent,’ with an in-depth discussion of issues surrounding translator iden tity, competence, and ethics. The paper proposes potential pathways and alternatives for how contemporary translating agents can address and find solutions to these challenges. Moreover, the paper argues that with the expansion of AI translation and the involvement of various media, it is no longer appropriate to limit the subject of translation to humans alone. It emphasizes the need to recognize AI translators not merely as auxiliary tools but as distinct translating agents in their own right. The paper advocates for fostering a translation environment where human translators, AI, and other agents coexist with mutual respect, collaboration, dialogue, and communication, ensuring the preservation of each agent’s subjectivity while creating a harmonious “a field of translation”.

This article discusses how the Imperial Annals-Biography of Emperor Han Wendi in the Hanshu supplements the historical materials missing in the Shiji. The article first reviews the comparative studies of previous scholars on the recording of historical events in the early Western Han Dynasty in the Shiji and Hanshu, generally thinking that many articles in the Hanshu have borrowed from the content of the Shiji, so the two books have a lot of overlap in content. Then, this article systematically lists the specific content of the Imperial Annals-Biography of Emperor Han Wendi in the Hanshu supplementing the Shiji, including detailed records of different years during Emperor Wen’s reign. Through the method of parallel passages evidence, these additional materials have made up for the historical materials missing in the Imperial Annals-Biography of Emperor Han Wendi in the Shiji in describing some of the chronological parts of Emperor Wen’s reign, providing new clues for future research on the compilation method of the Hanshu. The Hanshu inherits the Shiji, and its Imperial Annals-Biography of Emperor Han Wendi not only supplements the missing parts of the Shiji, but the related materials also allow readers to deeply understand the documentary basis at the time of the compilation of the Hanshu, supplementing the complete historical picture of the Western Han Dynasty under Emperor Wen.

This study aims to systematically compare the practical application capabilities of ChatGPT and Ernie Bot in Chinese content creation through the traditional performing art form of “Rapid Clapper Performance” (a type of Chinese rhythmic storytelling), providing empirical insights into the use of AI technology in Chinese creative content. Employing both qualitative and quantitative research methods, the study delves into the differences in performance between these two AI tools across three dimensions: imitation capabilities, Chinese language proficiency, and usability of the generated works. The findings reveal that although both ChatGPT and Ernie Bot demonstrate strong competitive abilities in basic language generation, Ernie Bot excels in handling culturally specific content and maintaining rhythmic consistency. Particularly, Ernie Bot shows significant advantages in cultural accuracy and depth of cultural background exploration. However, despite outperforming in several evaluation criteria, Ernie Bot’s usability in practical applications has not garnered widespread approval from users, highlighting the influence of individual needs and preferences on AI tool effectiveness. In contrast, ChatGPT is favored by users for its adaptability and creative flexibility, especially in the usability of its outputs. This indicates that in fields such as educational content and artistic creation, technical perfection is not the sole consideration; the actual needs and creative experience of the users are equally important.

This study examines the utility of elementary Chinese textbooks (语文) in the advanced stages of international Chinese language education. It first introduces the “Chinese Proficiency Grading Standards for International Chinese Language Education” to establish reference indicators for advanced Chinese proficiency. Then, using a quantitative research method, it analyzes three aspects: vocabulary level, vocabulary complexity, and distribution of grammar points. Firstly, nearly three-quarters of advanced vocabulary appears in the elementary Chinese textbooks lexicon. Secondly, it compares the vocabulary complexity between elementary Chinese textbooks and samples of advanced Chinese reading materials, finding no significant differences between the two kinds of reading materials. Thirdly, advanced grammar points, such as adverbs and complex sentence structures, are mainly covered in the textbooks for grades 3-6 of elementary Chinese education. Therefore, theoretically speaking, elementary Chinese textbooks can serve as feasible reading materials for advanced Chinese learners. The study also points out that appropriate processing and careful selection of texts are necessary when using elementary Chinese textbooks as reading materials for advanced stages.

Analyzing Chinese academic journals in South Korea, revealing their development history and characteristics, is beneficial for China to understand the current status of Chinese language and literature research in South Korea, and has comparative reference value for Chinese language and literature journals. In addition, it also has certain reference significance for how to include humanities and social science journals in the citation index of academic journals in China. This article uses statistical methods to analyze and study the Chinese language and literature academic journals evaluated by KCI, and then compares them with other language and literature journals such as KCI’s domestic, English, Japanese, and Korean journals. And use keywords and other methods to analyze the research content trends of Korean Chinese journals in recent years. Through the study of 24 Chinese language journals within the KCI system, this article believes that in at least the past 20 years, the research achievements of the Korean academic community on Chinese language and literature have been continuously increasing, especially in the field of Chinese language, with the proportion of papers constantly increasing. It has now surpassed the field of Chinese literature and become the most concerned area for Chinese language professionals in Korea.

This Adverbs constitute one of the most significant categories within the Chinese lexical system. A subset of adverbs exhibit polysemy, characterized by their complex application and high frequency, making them a focal and challenging point in language pedagogy. In traditional instructional approaches, these adverbial meanings are often taught as discrete grammatical units, without addressing the interrelationships between their meanings or elucidating their patterns of complementary distribution. Furthermore, due to constraints such as limited instructional time, the treatment of these adverbs is often oversimplified. Building upon existing pedagogical frameworks, this study seeks to investigate the semantic and pragmatic functions of polysemous adverbs and offer relevant teaching recommendations. Due to space limitations, the adverb “zai(再)” is selected as a case study. The paper explores the semantic connections and pedagogical sequencing of its different senses, the semantic distinctions and syntactic constraints associated with each sense, and the comparative teaching of its semantic field alongside synonymous adverbs. Through this focused analysis of “zai(再)” ,the study aims to provide insights that can inform the broader teaching of polysemous adverbs.

With 25 Mandarin Chinese teachers as the research objects, this paper discusses the realistic manifestations and generation of their technology anxiety in the era of digital intelligence through in-depth interviews and class teaching observations. It is found that the technology anxiety of Mandarin Chinese teachers is manifested as cognitive dilemma anxiety caused by technical cognitive distortion and technical iteration; technology-induced obstacle anxiety caused by invisible technical obstacles and the reform of teaching empowered by technology; career development anxiety caused by the weak renewal of teachers technical knowledge and skills and deviation of intelligent education expectations; ethical security anxiety caused by anomie of artificial intelligence and risk prevention and management. This irrational psychological status is the result of interactions between mandarin Chinese teachers and technology influenced by a series of cognitive, emotional and social factors. Based on this, the article puts forward the following suggestions on relieving such anxiety, including exploring and adopting diversified measures to help teachers hold positive technology cognition and value evaluation viewpoints; taking the cultivation of intelligent education knowledge and practical ability as the core to improve teachers’ intelligent education literacy; exploring a new model of human-machine collaborative education and bringing teachers’ professional advantages to full play in the era of digital intelligence; constructing the application guide of intelligent education technology to guide teachers to correctly understand and deal with ethical and security problems derived from technology.

The formulation and release of the “Chinese Proficiency Grading Standards for International Chinese Education” undoubtedly marks a milestone achievement in the standardization of international Chinese education, providing important references and foundations for Chinese teaching worldwide. Both Japan and Korea are within the Chinese character cultural sphere, and Chinese teaching in these countries should be treated differently from that in non-Chinese character cultural spheres. Teaching content and methods need to be tailored separately based on whether learners possess knowledge of Chinese characters. Based on this premise, this paper reexamines the vocabulary list of the Chinese Proficiency Grading Standards for International Chinese Education, focusing on the issue of Sino-Japanese homographs in advanced-level vocabulary.
