한국어 부정표현 교육 방안 연구 : 몽골인 한국어 학습자를 중심으로
Erdenebayar Agiuna
The purpose of this paper is to find an efficient way to teach grammatical negation in the Korean language to Mongolian learners. Mongolian learners often have difficulty understanding the form and usage of Korean negatives, which leads to errors. This study analyzes the causes, and compares the differences between the two languages to find ways to reduce the error rate among Mongolian learners. To this end, the study first examines the forms and functions of both Korean and Mongolian negation. The majority of past studies on this topic have been inadequate, especially in regards to contrasting the different usages of negation between Mongolian and Korean as-well as the analysis on the syntactic and semantic aspects of negated sentences. Therefore, this paper analyzes and contrasts the syntactic features of Korean and Mongolian negations and presents an educational plan that could improve the communication of Mongolian learners. The study was conducted using the following process. This paper analyzes the concept of negation as studied by Mongolian learners and categorizes it into the affix forms: prefixes and suffixes. Based on a comparative study on negation in Korean and Mongolian, Mongolian learners' perception and acquisition patterns of negation were investigated. The subjects of the study were a total of 56 Mongolian university students; 28 second-year students and 28 third-year students who were all majoring in Korean at the National University of Mongolia. The syllabus teaches Korean fundamental vocabulary and basic grammar to the first and second years, whereas the third and fourth years receive more advanced lectures. Accordingly, this study conducted a survey with the second year students categorized as the beginner level and third year students categorized as the Intermediate level. Based on the survey results, we determined the causes of numerous common mistakes. We understood how Mongolian learners actually use the negations 안, 못, and 말다, as-well as the constraints of 안 and 못. To measure how students were using negation, a questionnaire tailored to the student's level was produced and the answers were collated. The survey results are as follows: First, beginner and intermediate learners did not properly understand the restrictions of ‘simple negation’ and ‘ability negation’, and therefore, there was room for improvement regarding these negation methods and the expression of ‘prohibition’. When surveyed on their preferences between short and long negation, it was found that Mongolian learners used short negation more often. Second, many students were not aware that monomorphic negation should not be used when the predicate is a derivative word. Third, the meaning and limitations of the negative 말다 are not properly understood. There was a high frequency of not being able to distinguish between the 안 and 못 forms of negation. Fourth, students commonly make mistakes in regards to sentence structure when negation is involved. Specifically, they misplaced the negative prefix and suffix when tense is involved. However, the students displayed general competency in sentence structure when negation was not involved. In conclusion, the educational model focuses on sentence endings and semantic differences between 안, 못, 말다 to improve fluency of learners. Educational materials on the restrictive grammar rules of negative verbs, adjectives, and derivatives was presented. Through these detailed teaching methods of negation methods for beginner and intermediate learners, we expect that this will be of great help in learning negation methods for Mongolian Korean learners.
