Vol.105 No.-

This study examines the allegorical representation of division consciousness in Joseonjok poetry from the 2000s, focusing on prize-winning works from the Yanbian Literature Award (2000–2024). The Joseonjok community that holds a Korean ethnic identity while also being Chinese nationals has experi enced the division of the Korean peninsula through a tripartite network of relationships involving South Korea, North Korea, and China. Since the 2000s, amid the contraction of minority language policies and changes within the literary field, division has not persisted as a direct declarative language, but as fragmented forms embedded within poetic images. Drawing on Walter Benjamin's concepts of allegory and melancholy as analytical frameworks, this study reads both the way in which historical conditions of irresolvable meaning are inscribed within the structure of images, and the emotional structure of a subject who, unable to relinquish what has been lost, clings to objects and images. The analysis unfolds across three layers. At the layer of visible boundaries, the reverse flow of the Tumen River, rust of the armistice line, and refraction of a glass window give form to division as an irresolvable condition already saturated into sensation and materiality. In the layer of everyday objects, the shrinking of small change, the sealed time of the jangdok dae, and the cooled warmth of a century-old house reveal how an asymmetrical structure of belonging has settled on the surface of daily life. At the layer of passages and absence, a tunnel, a lost-and-found office, a stilled windmill, and a public telephone booth lay bare a time of suspension in which connection has become possible yet belonging remains unresolved. The common character istic running through all three layers is that meaning is not fixed. These images refuse to suture division into a narrative of resolution; before them, the poetic subject sustains a melancholic attachment while never collapsing entirely into despair. By refusing to foreground division as a grand slogan, Joseonjok poetry renders all the more vivid the manner in which division fundamentally shapes individual registers of living and the choice of language itself.

Vol.102 No.-

This study analyzes the formation and divergence of identity discourses within the Korean-Chinese (Joseonjok) community following the normalization of diplomatic relations between South Korea and China in 1992. It explores the political orientations and practical strategies embedded in these discourses. Rather than a fixed ethnic essence, Korean-Chinese identity is understood as a dynamic process of "becoming," shaped by specific historical and political conditions. Following normalization, Korean-Chinese individuals were compelled to develop new modes of self-recognition and identity practices beyond China's minority framework. During this transitional period, intellectual discourse became fragmented, reflecting generational differences and divergent political contexts. First , Jeong Pan-ryong and Kim Kang-il proposed contrasting frameworks: an "ethics of affiliation," rooted in pragmatic adaptation to the Chinese system, and a "strategy of marginality," which emphasized cultural agency at the borders. Second, Jo Seong-il and Hwang Yu-bok debated the "dual identity" of the Korean-Chinese. While Jo supported the coexistence of national and ethnic identities, Hwang rejected dualism and advocated defining Korean-Chinese as a fully integrated minority subject within China. Third, Kim Mun-hak and Kim Kwan-ung clashed over identity deconstruction and ethical responsibility. Kim Mun-hak’s call for a transnational and individualized identity aligned with pro-Japanese narratives, inviting significant ethical criticism. In contrast, Kim Kwan-ung emphasized the necessity of an ethical identity grounded in collective memory and historical trauma. Ultimately, this study argues that Korean-Chinese identity constitutes a political field of practice—negotiated, contested, and transformed along shifting cultural and political boundaries. Identity, therefore, does not converge toward a singular definition but unfolds through multilayered and complex processes of discursive struggle.

Vol.2015 No.05

Perfluorinated sulfonic acid (PFSA) ionomers have been widely used as membranes in the fields of green power generation and electrolysis. In spite of their high ion-conducting properties, it is difficult to apply them in the freestanding membrane state to harsh operation conditions owing to their chemical and electrochemical degradation issues. A promising membrane concept to satisfy this purpose would be “pore-filling membrane” composed of PFSA ionomers and porous PTFE support films. In this study, the porous PTFE support film treated with a cheap hydrophilic polymer is used as a reinforced material. Interestingly, the resulting PFSA-PTFE pore-filling membranes exhibit an extremely high proton conductivity with a fairly reduced ionomer content, which may give a valuable information to design a desirable pore-filling membrane.

2016 Research in Vestibular Science Vol.15 No.2

Vestibular rehabilitation (VR) is valuable tool to manage balance problem in various kinds of diseases. Over the last decades, numerous studies on the effect of VR have been reported. Recently, systematic analysis integrating the individual studies have been tried and the results suggest that VR is safe and effective management for the acute/chronic and unilateral/bilateral peripheral vestibular dysfunction, and also for the elderly people. VR relieves dizziness and improves gaze stability, postural stability, parameters of gait, and activities of daily living. Currently released “Clinical practice guideline of VR on peripheral vestibular dysfunction”support and assist the use of VR in clinical field. More research is needed to develop uniform evaluation tool to measure the symptomatic and functional status of the patients and individualized efficient rehabilitation programs. It is expected that device for VR incorporating new technologies such as virtual reality will be developed in near future.
