The usage of ethanol (EtOH)-blended gasoline (gasohol), has been increasing in recent years. EtOH has influence on the distribution and biodegradation of aromatic compounds such as BTEX (benzene (B), toluene (T), ethylbenzene (B), and xylene (X)) that are gasoline compositions. In this study, the effect of EtOH on the aerobic biodegradation of B, T and E was investigated using a BTEX and EtOH-degrading bacterium, Rhodococcus sp. EH831. The degradation rates of B in the conditions of 1:1, 1:4, and 1:0.25 mixtures with EtOH (B:EtOH, mol:mol) were ranged from $3.82{\pm}0.20$ to $5.00{\pm}0.37{\mu}mol{\cdot}g-dry$ cell wight $(DCW)^{-1}{\cdot}h^{-1}$. The degradation rate of T was the fastest in the 1:0.25 mixture ($6.63{\pm}0.06{\mu}mol{\cdot}g-DCW^{-1}{\cdot}h^{-1}$), and it was the lowest in the 1:4 mixture ($4.41{\pm}0.04{\mu}mol{\cdot}DCW^{-1}{\cdot}h^{-1}$). The degradation rates of E were increased with increasing the addition amount of EtOH: The degradation rate of E was the highest in the 1:4 mixture ($1.60{\pm}0.03{\mu}mol{\cdot}g-DCW^{-1}{\cdot}h^{-1}$), and the rates were $1.42{\pm}0.06$, $1.30{\pm}0.01$, and $1.01{\pm}0.30{\mu}mol{\cdot}g-DCW^{-1}{\cdot}h^{-1}$ in the 1:1, 1:0.25, 1.0 mixtures, respectively. In conclusion, the biodegradation of B, T, E by Rhodococcus sp. EH831 was not significantly inhibited by the co-existence of EtOH.

In this paper, the deformed shape, the contact forces and the load-displacement curves of the real hollow gasket made of silicon rubber are analyzed using a commercial finite element program MARC. In the numerical analysis, the silicon rubber is assumed to have the properties of the geometric and material nonlinearity and the incompressibility, and the hyperelastic constitutive relations of that material are represented by the generalized Mooney-Rivlin and Ogden models. The outer frictional contact between the hollow gasket and the groove of rigid container and the inner self-contact of the hollow gasket are taken into account in the course of numerical computation. Experiments are also performed to obtain the material data for numerical computation and to show the validity of the mechanical deformation of the hollow gasket, resulting in good agreements between them.

A sliding accident on the road have a high percentage by road freezing, especially, it is often appeared at bridges and tunnel of freezing areas. Thus, the stability of road operations is enhanced by preventing a partial freezing phenomenon. According to the geothermal snow melting system analysis, a pattern of thermal conductivity is found out about pavement materials of concrete and asphalt when it is buried. For the feasibility study on geothermal snow melting system, analysis of the ground melting point when operating system, life evaluation of pavements and safety evaluation of pipes are performed.

돌더덕은 전통의학의 소재로서 기관지염, 기침, 경련, 부종, 간염, 대장염, 폐 손상의 치료로 사용되어 왔다. 돌더덕 추출물의 천식증상 완화를 연구하기 위하여, 먼저 항산화 활성을 비교한 결과, DPPH, FRAP, Cupper 소거활성 실험으로부터 농도 의존적으로 우수한 활성을 확인할 수 있었다. 오브알부민 유도의 마우스 천식 동물모델에 적용한 결과, histamine, IL-31, MMP-9의 발현이 현저하게 감소함을 알 수 있었다. 또한 IL-13, 면역세포수, 호산구의 발현이 73.7%, 73.5%, 80.9% 정도 억제되었다. 이의 결과로, 돌더덕 추출물은 오브알부민 유도의 마우스천식 동물모델에서 탁월한 천식 효과를 나타내므로 항천식 식품소재나 바이오소재로의 개발이 기대된다. Codonopsis lanceolata (Campanulaceae) has been widely used in traditional medicine and is considered to have medicinal properties to treat diseases and symptoms such as bronchitis, coughs, spasm, edema, hepatitis, colitis, and lung injury. In order to investigate whether native Codonopsis lanceolata extract alleviates ashmatic symptoms in vivo, we first carried out various antioxidant activities by 2,2-diphenyl- 1-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) radical scavenging, ferric reducing antioxidant power (FRAP), and cupric reducing antioxidant capacity (CUPRAC) assays. The antioxidant activities were increased by adding Codonopsis lanceolata extract in a concentration-dependent manner which compared to ascorbic acid as a positive control. Histological studies using an ovalbumin-induced animal model exhibited potent anti-inflammatory potential by decreasing immuno-responsive cells in the lung by the extract by confirming H&E and PAS staining. It is revelaed that further immunihistochemical analysis showed anti-ashmatic capabilities by assessing histamine, IL-31, and MMP-9 expressions. The level of IL-13 expression in Codonopsis lanceolata extract-treated group was decreased upto 73.7% compared to control, whereas that of total cells and eosinophil counting in Codonopsis lanceolata extract-treated group was diminished to 73.5% and 80.9%, respectively. These results collectively indicate that the C. lanceolata extract ameliorates asthmatic symptoms effectively in an ovalbumin-challenged mice model, in that the extract can be used for the development of an anti-asthmatic food ingredient.

본 연구는 음식물류폐기물 혼합 퇴비(Food Waste Compost, FWC)의 시용량에 따라 시설상추의 수량에 어떠한 영향을 미치는지를 구명하기 위해 진행하였다. 비료의 처리는 시설상주 표준시비량을 기준으로 하여 무기질비료 50%에 음식물폐기물류 함유 퇴비를 질소 기준으로 100%,200%, 300% 처리하였고,대조구는 무처리구, 무기질 비료 50%, 무기질 비료 1W%를 처리하였다. 생육초기 음식물류폐기물 혼합 퇴비에 따른 비해는 발생하지 않았다. 수량조사는 일주일 간격으로 총 4회 실시하였고 주당 생체중과 건물중을 측정하였다. 수량조사 결과 음식물류폐기물 혼합 퇴비 FWC1, FWC2 처리구에서 무기질 비료 50%, 100% 처리한 처리구보다 생체중과 건물중이 높게 나타났고 FWC2 처리구에서 가장 높은 수량을 나타냈다. 음식물류폐기물 혼합 퇴비 처리구에서는 처리량이 100%,200% 처리까지는 수량이 증가하나, 300%에서는 오히려 수량이 낮아지는 것으로 나타났다. 본시험에서는 무기질비료 100% 처리구가 50% 처리구보다 수량이 낮게 나타났는데 이는 시설재배지에 토양 EC가 높은 수준이었고 이로 인해 상대적으로 무기질 비료 사용량이 높은 100% 처리구에서 생육이 저조했던 것으로 판단된다.
