Here, This Speck and This Speck That You Missed: A Poetics of the Archive in Myung Mi Kim`s Commons

This paper explores Myung Mi Kim`s poetics of the archive in Commons. Commons begins with a gesture that critiques a prior act of archivization: Here, this speck and this speck that you missed. As the poems accrue in the book, Commons demonstrates the desire to record those experiences that have been neglected by the architects of traditional archives while at the same time interrogating the very logic of the archive. Crucial to that interrogation is the poetic form. Kim`s attempt to archive silences and gaps leads to a radical experiment with form and language. It reformulates the archive as an open system amenable to interruption, extension, and revision. I examine in detail the techniques that contribute to her poetics of the archive, a poetics that draws the readers out of the narrow confines of their personal experiences and their political identities. By juxtaposing Kim`s poems with her statements of poetics given as interviews, this paper connects the project of Commons to Kim`s larger concern with open form and experimental writing. I argue that the difficulty of her poetry should be reinterpreted as a demand that her text makes on the readers to broaden their terms of engagement. The linguistic experiment of Commons provides an occasion to rethink the habitual ways in which time is experienced, national histories are written, and literary works are consumed.

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to identify the theoretical characteristics and direction of inquiry in the discipline of nursing by analyzing doctoral dissertations. Method: The materials used in this study were 277 doctoral dissertations from five universities in Korea. The framework for the study was derived from Kim's(1993) alternative linkage among philosophy, theory, and method in nursing science. Result: Of the 277 dissertations it was found that there were 13 types of linkages out of a possible 54 types. Most of the dissertations (128 of 277) were done within the linkage of realism/etic/quantitative/explanatory knowledge type. Of the 218 dissertations within scientific realism, 42 were within relativism, and 17 within practicism. There were 134 dissertations of the explanatory knowledge type, 112 descriptive ones, and 31 prescriptive ones. Studies done within the etic quantitative methodology included 209 dissertations and within the emic perspective, 43 with qualitative methodology, and 7 with quantitative. Conclusion: The results show that it is necessary to develop more alternative linkages for nursing practice and this will lead to expanding nursing knowledge.

This research is designed to make a comparative analysis of the types of leisure activities and the degree of and life satisfaction by demographic background variable and to present basic materials necessary for the development of programs for local policies on leisure in accordance with the local autonomous system with a view to determining the relationship between life satisfaction by type of leisure activity. The following are the findings. First, the survey failed to test a statistically significant difference between family member's mutual satisfaction, or the subordinate variable of age, job and health and general life satisfaction, or the subordinate variable of income. But there was a statistically significant difference in life satisfaction by gender, age, education, job, income and health at a level of 1 percent. Second, the survey on the influences of the types of leisure activities on leisure satisfaction and life satisfaction revealed that there was a statistically significant influences in all the subordinate variables of and life satisfaction.

증기발생기 세관 와전류 탐상 신호해석을 위한 주성분 분석

증기발생기(SG) 세관은 그 가동 특성상 결함이 발생할 가능성이 매우 높으며 이들의 건전성 확보는 원자력 발전소의 안전을 위해서는 필수적이다. 이들의 가동중검사에는 ECT가 널리 사용되고 있다. 본 연구에서는 bobbin coil probe를 사용한 원전 SG 세관 ECT신호를 해석하기 위해서 신경회로망을 이용하였다. ECT의 특징을 추출하였고, 이들 중에서 단일특징 분류성능을 분석하여 유용한 특징을 선택하였으며, 또한 주성분분석을 이용하여 유용한 특징들을 정의하였다. 이와 같이 정의된 특징들로 정의된 신경회로망을 학습시키고, 학습된 신경회로망으로 미지의 결함신호에 대해서 결함의 분류와 크기 산정을 수행하였다. 수치해석으로 만들어진 모사 ECT신호에 대해서 적용한 결과, 주성분분석으로 정의된 특징들을 사용하는 경우에 보다 적은 수의 특징을 사용함에도 불구하고 신호해석의 성능이 향상되었다. 따라서, 주성분 분석은 ECT신호와 같은 다변량 데이터를 처리하는데 매우 유용함을 알 수 있었다.

First, the survey on testing the difference of leisure satisfaction by gender failed to test the difference in psychological and physiological satisfaction, but there were a statistically significant difference in educational, social and relaxation satisfaction at a level of 1 percent. And the survey failed to test the difference in psychological satisfaction by age, but there was a statistically significant difference in leisure satisfaction by society, education, job, monthly income, and health. Second, the survey on the influences of the types of leisure activities on leisure satisfaction revealed that there was a statistically significant influences in all the subordinate variables of leisure satisfaction.

In recent years, gonorrhea has been pandemic and remains one of the most common STDs in the world, especially in developing countries. For the detection of a more effective therapeutic regimen and assessing the prevalence of Penicillinase Producing Neisseria gonorrhoeae(PPNG), we have been trying to study the patients who have visited the Venereal Disease Clinic of Choong-Ku Public Health Center in Seoul since 1980 by menas of the chromogenic cephalosporin method. In 1998, 93 strians of N. genorrhoeae were isolated, among which 60(64.5%) were PPNG. The prevalence of PPNG in Seoul, which had been decreased to 39% in 1996 after a peak of 74.3% in 1993, is increased to 64.5% in 1998.

This study focuses on reestablishing martial arts and sports education based on existing educational capabilities in Korean martial arts education to facilitate the localization of Korean culture around the world. Furthermore, the study intends to globalize our own martial arts and apply Yongmoo-do practices to different guard situations, which were originally developed on a great ambition to enhance the position of Korean martial arts in the 21st century as the beginning of new millennium. Guard or escort exists for just a moment which implies accidental emergency. Upon any occurrence of such emergency, the success of guard duty depends on how much rapidly and safely clients can be protected. Therefore, a bodyguard or escort who performs guard duty could face a variety of accidental emergencies so that they must be usually trained with proper martial arts in various way. Yongmoo-do is designed to enable bodyguards to safely deal with unexpected accidents by practical martial skills such as strike, kick, throws(mechigi), snap, neck wring and other skills using weapon. In addition, Yongmoo-do also allows guards to raise their defense capability and survivability against accidental threatening attacks from any suspicious criminal. As described above, it is noted that Yongmoo-do has high applicability enough to meet both safety and self-defense requirements. Thus, it is expected that Yongmnoo-do practices will facilitate trainees to master its theories and phased basic skills so that they can be trained in scheduled and formulated ways based on countermeasures and guard/escort techniques against any occurrence of emergency. Moreover, they will be likely to feel more actuality through an approach of guard martial art according to harmful elements under the simulated guard formation by different situations.
